The lifeboat was launched at 8.37pm at the request of UK Coastguard to the woman  in the water behind Wetherspoon.

On scene the crew stood by while the woman decided what she was doing.

Eventually she made her own way back to shore, where a police officer was waiting.

Once UK Coastguard were happy that the person was no longer in any danger, they released the crew to return to station.

The woman was taken to hospital but is not believed to have suffered any injuries.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called to Ramsgate at 8.27pm where a woman was reported to be in the sea and distressed.

“Officers attended along with the coastguard and South East Coast Ambulance Service where she was safely brought ashore and then taken to hospital.”
