Police appeal over Birchington crash where man suffered serious injuries

Kent Police is appealing for witnesses after a serious road traffic collision in Manston Road, Birchington, this morning (July 14).

The collision, which involved a grey Peugeot 207, happened at the junction with Shottendane Road at approximately 8.25am and left the 30-year-old driver with serious injuries.

He was airlifted to a London hospital by the Kent air ambulance.

Police Constable Simon Masterson from the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “The Peugeot 207 was travelling towards Acol when it left the road and collided with a telegraph pole.”

Kent Fire and Rescue crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to release the man from the car.

The injured male driver is from from the Hayling Island area of Hampshire. He remains in a critical but stable condition.

PC Masterson said: “We are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact us. We would also like to speak to anyone who saw the grey Peugeot or has dashcam footage of it in the minutes before the collision.”
