Man due before magistrates over serious Margate assault

Detectives investigating a serious assault in a flat in Margate on Sunday (July 8) have charged a man with two offences.

Matthew Kenneth Harkett, 39, of Rosedale Road, Margate, has been charged with wounding a man with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm and assaulting a police officer.

Officers were called to the incident in Rosedale Road by SECAmb. The victim, a man in his 40s, was taken by air ambulance to a London hospital with injuries to his neck and chest. His condition is said to be serious but stable.

Mr Harkett has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Medway magistrates today (July 10).
