Kent Police has issued a warning after receiving 16 reports of thefts and attempted thefts from vehicles in Westgate and Westbrook in less than four weeks.
The offences are believed to have taken place overnight on three different occasions, on 22-23 May, 29-30 May, and 15-16 June.
Residents are being reminded to ensure their cars are locked and secure as even low-value items can be attractive for thieves.
In one of the reports made to officers, a car owner reported that her vehicle parked in St Mildred’s Gardens in Westgate overnight between 22 and 23 May was searched and a broken iPod adaptor was taken and then found discarded a short distance away.
Sergeant James Ross of Thanet Community Safety Unit said: “I ask that people take care with their cars and possessions.
“Because of the warmer weather, people wind their windows down and unfortunately forget to put them back up when they go home.
“Likewise people can sometimes leave coins or other possessions on display overnight making the vehicle a clear target. Remember it takes would-be thieves no effort at all to try a door handle.”
