Armed police were brought in for an arrest in Broadstairs today (June 25) after reports that a man with a weapon and what appeared to be an Iranian flag was behaving suspiciously outside Westwood Tesco.
Kent Police was called at 12.19pm today (June 25) after the man was said to have gone into several stores in the Millennium Way area. No threats were made to staff or to members of the public. A witness says the man was carrying an axe and was holding the flag.
Police with dogs and the armed officers arrested a 34-year-old Broadstairs man in Leas Green, off Rumfields Road, at 1.41pm on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.
He is currently in police custody.
