Following the success of last Summer’s sell-out Archers event, Tim Bentinck and Sunny Ormonde will be coming to the Broadstairs Pavilion on June 21.
The pair, who play the BBC Radio 4 soap’s pivotal David Archer, and the feisty, gin-loving Lillian Bellamy, will be in conversation with isle author Jane Wenham-Jones as part of BroadstairsLit – the festival that goes on throughout the year.
Denise Martin-Harker, BroadstairsLit’s festival director, said: “We were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm for our first Archers event last year, when scriptwriter Keri Davies and cast members Trevor Harrison (Eddie Grundy) and Annabelle Dowler (Kirsty Miller) entertained us with snippets from behind the scenes, and we have responded to requests to repeat the format – this time in the evening to allow even more people to attend.”
The radio drama, which has 5 million listeners, is very popular on the isle, especially with novelist Jane, who describes herself as “passionate” about the show.
She said: “I’ve hosted several Archers themed events now and even though I’m an avid listener, I learn something new every time. Whether it’s the truth about whether they really kiss during love scenes, or how they replicate the sound of a lamb being born, cast members are always a fund of amusing stories.
“Tim is a very experienced actor and is great fun and I can’t wait to meet Sunny – I’ve long had a small crush on Lillian. I think all Archers fans long to go to the pub with her!”
Tim Bentinck will be signing copies of his memoir Being David Archer available for purchase from Waterstones during the evening.
