A couple who delighted Ramsgate when RNLI crew member Harry Hughes proposed in style to his pregnant girlfriend Kerry Ewer last month have welcomed their baby boy into the world .

Kerry was walking on Ramsgate beach when Harry approached shore aboard the Inshore Lifeboat with a banner asking her to marry him.

Harry then waded onto the beach, dropped to one knee in front of a slightly embarrassed Kerry and asked her to marry him. Thankfully she said yes.

And now the couple are celebrating another big day after Kerry gave birth to their son, who weighed in at 7.6lbs, on May 9.

The couple have named him Theodore Dean Roy Hughes.

RNLI spokeswoman Karen Cox said: “I managed to catch up with them at the Ramsgate RNLI station where Harry told me of his hopes that Theo will follow in his footsteps and join the RNLI.

“They have already coordinated the pram with the yellow welly theme as it is bright yellow and they are hoping to get some yellow wellies for Theo as soon as they can find some small enough! “

The RNLI is a charity dedicated to saving lives at sea, and relies entirely on donations from the public and volunteers like Harry.
