Invite to Margate celebration for 70th birthday of the NHS

Marking 70 years of the NHS

Save Our NHS in Kent (SONIK) will be holding a party in Margate next weekend to celebrate the 70th birthday of the NHS.

The party takes place on Saturday, May 5 at Marine Gardens, Margate, starting at noon.

A SONIK spokesperson said:”70 years on, the NHS is still used and loved by the majority of the nation. Where would we be without it? We are inviting people to show their love and appreciation by coming together for a picnic in the heart of Margate to celebrate the history of the NHS, and our wish that it will continue for many more years.”

SONIK is asking people to: “Bring friends, a blanket and food and drink. Bring a handmade sign telling us why you love the NHS, or just wishing the NHS a happy birthday. It will be a family-friendly, fun event and a chance to meet the NHS campaigners at SONIK who are fighting the plans to close the stroke unit at QEQM. Let’s how everyone that we love our NHS and will fight for it!”

It looks as though the weather will be sunny and quite warm, so the organisers are hoping for a good turnout.

The NHS birthday is actually on July 5 but celebrations began at the start of this year.
