Punk pioneers Captain Sensible and his band The Damned have sent a video message to pupils at Newington primary school.

Music teacher Warwick Eldred received the message during the Easter holidays after the musicians spotted the school’s affectionate video and song tribute to the band, the 2 Times Table Song.

The Damned, who were the first British band to release a punk single and album, took time out of their busy promotional schedule (prior to the recording of the video they had been signing 6000 copies of their new album) to wish the pupils well with their musical ventures and learning.

Mr Eldred said: ‘The pupils were thrilled to hear from the band, especially as they love the punky nature of our ‘ 2 Times Table Song’ and were keen to learn more about that specific genre of music. They also loved learning Captain Sensible’s number one hit song ‘Happy Talk’ last term, and we really appreciate the time and effort that the band took in contacting us.”
