Poundworld at Westwood Cross will close at the end of this month (March).
Staff have been notified of redundancy after the retailer reviewed its tenancy agreement at the shopping centre.
A Poundworld spokesperson, said: “As a retailer that operates on small margins in the discount sector, it’s vital that we continually review our tenancy agreements and store estate to ensure that we have our shops in the best locations for our customers, and for the business.
“We understand that our customers in the town will be disappointed by the news, however, we have taken the decision to close our Westwood Cross store at the end of the month.”
Poundworld opened the Westwood Cross store in May 2012.
Personally I guessed it would following reports in the Times. It is not exactly a busy store.
There has always been a long queue at the tills when ever I have visited. I hope the staff all find suitable vacancies elsewhere as it is not the best of news for them.
Westwood Cross isn’t a town, it’s a hideous, pedestrian-unfriendly shopping mall.
Its an awful place tp shop especially when its wet and windy , This is not the first store to pull out of the shopping centre , I think others will follow soon too.
they are 10 to a pound in the area now
Westwood cross is an awful place to shop. Just a few places to sit, benches out in the rain, long long walks just to get from one shop to another, “photo police” and greedy rents on shops trying to make an honest living. You’d never think this was 21st century design. It is hostile design.
