The Yarrow Hotel in Broadstairs has been awarded 4 star status

The Yarrow Hotel

Boutique Broadstairs hotel, The Yarrow, has been awarded four-star status as part of Visit England’s Quality Assurance scheme.

The prestigious award highlights the outstanding standards of accommodation and service within the hotel.

The venue is one of just a handful of four-star rated hotels in Thanet.

Hotel manager, James Redshaw said: “Ever since we opened, we have aspired to be four-star hotel, so to have now received this accolade is fantastic for our staff who work so hard to deliver the best possible service to our customers.”

Visit England uses strict criteria to assess the levels of services and facilities offered to determine which star rating to award. Every aspect of the hotel was thoroughly inspected from the efficiency of the booking process to the level of service.

In its first inspection – which takes place annually – The Yarrow achieved a three-star rating.

Cleanliness is the most crucial element of any assessment and minimum standards, particularly at the higher star ratings, reflect consumer expectations.

James said: “It’s brilliant news to have a four-star rated hotel in Broadstairs for the people of Thanet, as it means we’ll be more likely to bring in tourism and contribute more to our local economy.”

The hotel is unique in the UK, as it’s owned and operated by a further education college. The Broadstairs campus of East Kent College has long been known for its catering and hospitality courses and chose to develop the hotel to ensure its students got to hone their craft in a high quality commercial environment.

The Yarrow opened in July 2016 and a turnover of more than £1million in its first year.

James said: “It’s wonderful to have this resource to help ensure a steady supply of high quality, skilled hospitality staff into the local economy. There’s a huge skills gap in tourism related service sector, and The Yarrow is helping to ensure these industries get the employees they need to continue to grow and flourish.

“The four-star rating adds to that and highlights the quality of the students being trained in the hotel.”
