Several people treated for smoke inhalation at scene of Hardres Street fire

Emergency crews are currently (November 13) at the scene of a fire in Ramsgate.

Firemen are working to contain the blaze in a basement flat in Hardres Street at The Victoria restaurant. Several people have been treated for smoke inhalation.

Police and paramedics are also at the scene.

A fire service spokesman said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire engines to a fire in the basement of four-storey building used as a restaurant and flats in Hardres Street, Ramsgate.

“A number of people were treated for smoke inhalation and passed in the care of SECAmb. Kent Police was also in attendance. The cause of the fire is not yet known.”

A Kent Police spokesman added: “Kent Police was made aware of a fire at a property in Hardres Street, Ramsgate, at 11.16am.

“Officers are currently at the scene assisting Kent Fire and Rescue Service and carrying out enquiries into the cause of the incident.”

The road is currently closed at the junction with Broad Street.

Early indications are that the fire is thought to be electrical. UK Power Networks are at the site.
