Morgans dance hall on Margate seafront has closed

Morgan's before it closed in October

Morgans Vintage Dance Hall and Coffee Lounge has closed.

The seafront bar, formerly the Waverley, was taken on by Allyson Jones in 2012 and completely refurbished.

It opened in 2013 and became a hot spot for live music and dances.

But Allyson held her last event at the bar on Saturday after the owner of the building decided not to renew her lease.

In a message on social media Allyson said: “In 2012 I was told that my business idea wouldn’t work in Margate.

Well it did and 2017 has been the best year yet.

“I achieved everything I set out to do in my business plan. Community engagement, education programme, collaboration of the arts, social inclusion, sexy cocktail bar all within a fabulous town that just needed to be believed in. Unfortunately, some good things have had to come to end.

“It is with deepest regret that Morgans has to close its doors on October 28.

“I hope you have all enjoyed the past few years as much as I have. There have been some incredible memories. I feel very privileged to have met so many beautiful, interesting characters and to be part of Margate’s amazing community.

“I’ll take this opportunity to thank all the people who have helped shape Morgans into what it is today, I feel I have made some wonderful friendships along the way.”

Allyson has already started on her next venture and will be producing shows on the isle.
