A Broadstairs goldsmith will officially open a bespoke jewellery studio in her childhood home tonight (October 7).

Ami Blastock is launching AB Jewellery studio at a workshop on the property she grew up in at 21 Lloyd Road. The doors will be open at 7pm.

Ami, who now lives in Sandwich, gained her degree in silversmithing, goldsmithing and jewellery design at UCA in 2009 and has worked for jewellers including Astley Clarke and Tom McEwan. She set up AB Jewellery in 2008 whilst still studying and has now taken the plunge to work entirely for herself.

The 34-year-old handcrafts all her pieces using traditional goldsmithing techniques with an emphasis on using simple angles and polished silver and gold to give impact. She also upcycles old jewellery into new pieces and can also repair existing jewellery.

The former Clarendon student said: “I have worked for several jewellers in London, gaining experience, but I just love home and think the arts are really building up here.

“I’m taking the leap now as when you are working for other jewellers it is always about making someone else’s work.

“I really love making pieces for people and being part of the whole story, especially when I am upcycling.”

Ami’s work is inspired by her surroundings and the materials she works with.

She said: “I’m inspired by everything around me, the seaside and the town. I have The Pebble range which is organic shapes inspired by the beach.”
