Thousands of people enjoyed events across nine days at this year’s Ramsgate Festival.

Despite the issue of the 300ft waterslide not being brought to the town, leaving many who had won a place through the ballot disappointed, the festival ended on a high note with a parade and fire show at the seafront.

Organisers say the last day was “incredible” and confirmed work is already taking place to get the waterslide to the town on a new date.

Festival director Terry Askew said: “Well done and thank you everyone. We were overwhelmed with how supportive and kind the vast majority of people have been even though all of us felt so let down by slide cancellation.

“We were particularly distressed for the children who had been looking forward to sliding – and we know many of the adults who were lined up to slide were also terribly disappointed, as we were.

“But this town is amazing and everyone rallied together and in the end our last day of the festival was a huge success even without the slide.

“We have a lot to follow up on now. A huge long list of thank yous to compile and get out and slidematters plus much else.

“The hard work doesn’t stop here but we are happy that in the end the nine days of celebration really did close on a high with the music and dancing on the World Rhythms Stage, the magical Dream Marine Parade, spectacular Fire Finale by FlameOz, sponsored by Wetherspoon’s Royal Pavilion and all the other events which took place on Sunday.”
