Government Acre in Ramsgate was alive with the sound of laughter when hundreds of people came out to support Pilgrims Hospice Thanet’s fifth It’s a Knockout challenge on Sunday.
The sun shone down on 18 teams of friends, families and isle businesses who all took on the challenge, leaping across bouncy obstacles and skidding down shoots as they competed for the coveted title of champions.
Karen Kenward, community fundraising manager, said: “This really is a fun event with many supporters returning each year. We would like to thank everyone who attended either by taking part, sponsoring their team members, spectators who came along to cheer their teams on, the volunteers for helping run our fun stalls and for dressing up as mascots.”
The winning team was The Stormloopers from Stagecoach for the second year in a row, with team Summit and Beyond as runners up and the HoSpice Girls coming in last place and receiving wooden spoons.
Team sponsorship is still coming in, so the final amount raised will be announced in the coming weeks. The hospice team is really pleased with the show of support on the day.
Karen said: “This wonderful support will enable us to continue to provide care for all who need it, through our Therapy Centres, on our wards and in people’s own homes.”
Each year, Pilgrims offers care and comfort to more than 2,400 people who are coping with an illness that cannot be cured.
As well as the high quality end of life care Pilgrims gives on its wards and in the community the charity has also launched a new programme of wellbeing activities to support people earlier in their journey.

Doors open at 4pm. Walk starts at 7pm. Registration Early Bird – until July 31.
Adults £12 under 18’s £10. Entry increases thereafter.
