General Election 2017: Candidates in the hot seat at teacher’s union hustings

Parliamentary candidates for South Thanet will be grilled by teachers and parents at an election hustings in Ramsgate.

The National Union of Teachers, Thanet branch, has organised the event which will take place at the Red Arrows Club, off Newington Road, on May 25.

Candidates in the hot seat confirmed so far are Tory Craig Mackinlay, Labour’s Raushan Ara, Rev Stuart Piper for UKIP, Independent Ian Driver and Trevor Roper for the Greens.

The hustings will be chaired by Bridget Chapman and NUT division secretary Christine Dickinson will speak.

Topics expected at the event include education funding and whether Ofsted is a political tool.

The General Election takes place on June 8.

The husting starts at 6.30pm.
