The latest round-up of Thanet people dealt with by the courts.

Drugs and knife offences

Stuart Paul Morling was sentenced on 6 April at Thanet Magistrates’ Court.

He pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis, possession of a knife, two counts of possession of cocaine and two counts of possession of amphetamine.

On 17 January  the 29-year-old, of Melbourne Avenue, Ramsgate, had a lock knife, a quantity of cannabis, 3.5 grams of cocaine, 2.77 grams of cocaine, 1.37 grams of amphetamine and 2.59 grams of amphetamine in his possession in York Street, Ramsgate.

Magistrates sentenced Morling to 140 days in prison, suspended for 24 months. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Shopping list

Jack Smith was sentenced on 5 April at Medway Magistrates’ Court.

He pleaded guilty to theft from a machine and 14 counts of shoplifting.

On 29 December 2016 the 38-year-old, of Union Row, Margate, stole meat worth £95 from a supermarket in Wrotham Road, Sevenoaks.

On 30 December 2016 he stole meat worth £125 from a shop in High Street, Snodland.

On 1 January 2017 he stole meat and coffee worth £63 from a supermarket in Loose Road, Maidstone.

On 20 January 2017 he stole meat worth £75 from the same supermarket.

On 8 February 2017 he stole meat worth £15.40 from the same supermarket.

On 11 February 2017 he stole an electric razor worth £284.99 from a shop in Fremlin Walk, Maidstone.

On 14 February 2017 he stole meat worth £50 from the same supermarket in Wrotham Road, Sevenoaks.

On 20 February 2017 he stole frozen meat worth an unknown amount from a supermarket in College Walk, Margate.

On 21 February 2017 he stole frozen meat worth an unknown amount from the same supermarket and £30 cash from a children’s toy machine outside a shop in Northdown Road, Margate.

On 24 February 2017 he stole four jars of coffee worth £11.16 from another shop in College Walk, Margate.

On 16 March 2017 he stole meat worth an unknown amount from a supermarket in High Street, Broadstairs.

On 21 March 2017 he stole meat worth an unknown amount from the same supermarket and beauty products worth £152.85 from a shop in High Street, Margate.

On 22 March 2017 he stole items worth £58.40 from the same supermarket in High Street, Broadstairs.

Magistrates sentenced Smith to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months. He must also pay £798 compensation, £185 costs and a £135 victim surcharge.

Behind bars

Lee James Kennelly was sentenced on 6 April  at Thanet Magistrates’ Court.

He pleaded guilty to theft, fraud and criminal damage.

On 25 February 2017 the 33-year-old, of Northdown Road, Margate, stole a wallet containing cash, bank cards and a driving licence worth an unknown amount while on a bus in Ramsgate. He then made a false representation by using a stolen bank card to purchase goods for himself.

On 26 February 2017 he damaged a vehicle in Broad Street, Ramsgate.

Magistrates sentenced Kennelly to 80 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.Banned from the road.

Banned from the road

Max Rasztar was sentenced on 6 April at Thanet Magistrates’ Court.

He pleaded guilty to driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, drink driving, driving without insurance and failing to stop after a road accident.

On 5 March  the 22-year-old, of Ethelbert Road, Margate, drove a BMW in Margate Road, Ramsgate, otherwise than in accordance with a licence and with no insurance. He also failed to stop the vehicle after a road accident where damage was caused to another vehicle and gave a breath test of 110 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned Rasztar from driving for 28 months and ordered him to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Disqualification can be reduced by seven months if, by 5 November 2018, he satisfactorily completes a course approved by the Secretary of State, the cost of which will not exceed £250.

Over the limit

Christopher Horrex was sentenced on 6 April 2017 at Thanet Magistrates’ Court.

He pleaded guilty to drink driving.

On 13 March 2017 the 73-year-old, of Fort Paragon, Margate, drove a Ford KA in High Street, Margate, and gave a breath test of 66 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned Horrex from driving for 18 months. He must also pay a £150 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Disqualification can be reduced by 139 days if, by 19 March 2018, he satisfactorily completes a course approved by the Secretary of State, the cost of which will not exceed £250.
