A petition against changes to the 56 bus route has been handed in

An online petition launched to protest against changes to the 56 bus route has closed with more than 1,500 names on it.

Regulars of the service were outraged at proposals to divert it from the lower High Street in Broadstairs, avoiding the Hopeville Avenue part of St. Peters.

The proposal by operator Stagecoach, which runs the service for Kent County Council, was due to inconsiderate and illegal parking that meant the bus was regularly delayed en-route from Broadstairs to Margate.

The petition has now been handed to KCC and a paper version with more signatures will follow.

Cllr Jenny Matterface, who represents Thanet District Council on the joint Thanet Quality Bus Partnership, said: “It is an amazing effort and thanks must go to all those who helped collecting signatures in shops, on the bus, in the GP surgery and outside Tesco and the Co-op. Now we just need confirmation KCC will follow through.”
