A driver and his dog had to exit a car as it smouldered and then burst into flames today (March 8) in Margate.
Kent Fire and Rescue service attended the blaze in New Street this afternoon.
The driver sat on a nearby wall and was offered tea by Liz Stone from Mark Michaels dry cleaners as crews dealt with the incident.

The car’s engine was burnt out during the incident.
The fire is now out.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called in at 12.05pm.
A spokesperson said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a car alight on Friday 8 March in New Street, Margate.
“One fire engine attended, and crews used a hose reel jet to put out the flames.
“There were no reported injuries, and the cause is not yet known, but started while the car was being driven.”
The crew finished at the scene at 12.27pm.

If true, it is very unusual. Diesel vehicles rarely spontaneously combust, and are the easiest for the fire services to tackle. Unlike electric.
