Thieves have stolen hammocks from Dame Janet primary’s new ‘forest school’ area

The hammocks were in the new woodland area created for pupils over the Summer holidays

Heartless thieves have stolen five hammocks from Dame Janet Primary Academy’s new woodland area.

Thieves broke in sometime during the weekend and unbolted the hammocks which were put in place during a six-week project during the Summer holidays to create a ‘forest school’ area.

Head teacher Sam Atkinson said children and staff at the Newington Road school are devastated by the break-in.

He added: “The staff at Dame Janet spent 6 weeks over the summer holidays building the woodland area themselves to provide something special for the children to use.

“Our caretaking team are particularly upset as it was their time, skill and effort that created this fabulous resource. To then find out that someone could be heartless enough to steal from it and from the children is really tough.

“Our children deserve the very best and to think there are people who don’t share that way of thinking is a blow to the work everyone at Dame Janet does.”

If you can help trace the hammocks or the people responsible for their theft contact Kent Police on 101.
