Thanet Writers group is offering payment for your work

Thanet Writers CIC

Thanet-based publisher and community organisation Thanet Writers CIC are now a paying market, offering £10 per item for short stories, poetry, book reviews, essays and articles on writing. Along with online publication through their website thanetwriters.com they will be releasing print and ebook anthologies of writing by Thanet-linked authors and poets.

The organisation, which formed in October 2015, has worked to support, encourage and promote the writers, poets and authors of the Thanet creative community by publishing fiction, poetry, articles and book reviews online since April 2016. Thanet Writers also create video content including interviews with notable writers such as Nigel West, Catherine Law, Chris Vannoy and Maggie Harris, and film performances of local poets and writers. Thanet Writers host various regular groups for authors and poets throughout the local area.

Thanet Writers CIC are actively involved in the local creative scene within Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. Part of their work is to promote writing as a therapeutic form of self-expression, and they are involved in encouraging writing as an outlet for those who struggle with mental health.

Both the website and anthology projects are now supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and, along with paying new contributors, Thanet Writers are able to acquire non-exclusive print rights for all content that has already been published on thanetwriters.com as well, meaning even those writers whose work has previously been accepted can also now receive payment for it.

Anyone with a connection to Thanet is welcome to join the Thanet Writers community and can submit their writing for consideration by going to thanetwriters.com/submit

Hannah Fairbairn, one of the Directors of Thanet Writers CIC, said: “We are honoured to have been supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and feel privileged to be able to pay writers for their work. By focusing on publishing quality writing, promoting local authors and poets along with organisations and events, and nurturing writers, Thanet Writers will continue to grow and develop in the Thanet area along with giving something back to the writers who have made it a success.”

Thanet Writers is a community interest company (CIC No. 10690420). For more information about Thanet Writers and current projects please visit thanetwriters.com/about

      • Well, I’m involved inasmuch as I’m a writer in thanet, occasionally turn up to one of their groups (not for aaaages), and help with videos from time to time. This was entirely their idea – it’s a good one, so I congratulate them on it. Where’s the harm in that? We should applaud innovation wherever it appears.
