Thanet council appoints contractors for first phase of £9.2million affordable homes scheme

Thanet council has appointed WW Martin to carry out construction of a £2.5million first phase housing scheme. A total of three phases are planned.

Phase 1 will be the redevelopment of five sites in Margate and St. Peters, Broadstairs. The redevelopment will provide 11 units on parcels of land currently or historically providing blocks of garages. These are to be a mixture of flats, houses and bungalows.

All homes will meet the HCA Design Standard and Lifetime Homes standards to provide accessible and convenient accommodation for a wide range of the population, from households with young children to older people, and individuals with temporary or permanent physical or sensory impairment.

Construction begins in early 2018.

The sites

Perkins Avenue, Margate

This site has been in the long term ownership of TDC and has full planning consent for two. 3 bedroom, semi-detached houses, each with parking and external amenity space.The redevelopment will provide much needed housing and prevent further vandalism and fly tipping on the under used garage site.

Properties are to be let at affordable rent.

The site houses two rows of garages and requires the demolition of one row and retention of the other.

Norman Road, St Peters

This site has been in the long term ownership of TDC and has full planning consent for two 3-bed semi-detached houses, each with parking and external amenity space.

To be let at affordable rent.

The triangle shaped site houses an L shaped row of garages which are to be demolished. The redevelopment will provide much needed housing and prevent further vandalism and fly tipping on the  site.

Prince Andrew Road (Site A)

The site has full planning consent two 3-bedroom, semi-detached houses and one 2-bedroom, bungalow each with parking and external amenity space.

Phase 2 is a £2.5million redevelopment of 3 sites within Ramsgate. The redevelopment will provide 14 units on parcels of land currently or historically providing blocks of garages. These are to be a mixture of flats, houses and bungalows.

The site has full planning consent two 3-bedroom, semi-detached dwellings and one two bedroom, 4 person wheelchair standard bungalow.

The homes are being built after Thanet council successfully bid for funding from the government’s Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), for developing brownfield sites with new social housing.

The council will create 51 new homes in Thanet.
