Ramsgate seafront – and Royal Victoria Pavilion pre-opening – hit by power cut

The seafront is packed but the Royal Victoria Pavilion is unable to let customers in because of a power cut

Punters with tickets to have food and drinks at a pre-opening for the Royal Victoria Pavilion today (August 27)  were left disappointed when the seafront was hit by a powercut.

Staff were having to turn people away, exchanging vouchers  for cards to have free drinks after the official opening day on  Tuesday (August 29).

In a post on the pub’s facebook page it says: “Due to circumstances out of our control with a local power cut affecting the whole of Ramsgate seafront we are unable to open. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope the issue will be sorted promptly.”

UK Power Networks still have a van on the scene. Most sites, including the funfair are continuing to operate.

The pub will be officially opened at 8am on Tuesday in a ceremony with Mayor Trevor Shonk and Mayoress Mandy Shonk.

Pub managers Chris Whitbourn and Charlotte Mason will head up a staff of more than 100 at the UK’s largest Wetherspoon.

It will be open from 8am until 12 midnight Sunday to Wednesday and 8am until 1am Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Food will be served throughout the day, from opening until 11pm, every day.
