Police warning over fake Scottish £20 notes in Thanet

Watch out for fakes

Fake Scottish £20 notes are circulating in Thanet, Kent Police has warned.

Officers received a report of a counterfeit note in Margate on Tuesday 2 May  and have reason to believe there may be more of them in the area.

The easiest way to identify a fake Scottish note is to look for a watermark, feel for raised print where the name of the bank is printed or by the general feel of the note. For further information visit www.acbi.org.uk

Retailers should continue to use UV detector lights where available.

Investigating officer Sergeant James Ross said: “We would urge everyone to be vigilant and check their notes. Shopkeepers should not allow the notes to go back into circulation and any incidents should be reported immediately to Kent Police by calling 101.”
