A person in distress has been rescued from the sea in Margate.

Ramsgate lifeboat was launched at 8.08am today (January 29) at the request of UK Coastguard to a person in distress in the water opposite Turner Contemporary.

Margate ILB was off service due to delamination. While the Ramsgate crew were making their way to the scene, shore based emergency services were able to get the person out of the water.

The lifeboat was stood down.

Kent Police and Secamb have been asked for further details.
