Steve Alexander

Members of Margate Civic Society will hold their first meeting of 2018 in the Ballroom at the Walpole Bay Hotel, Fifth Avenue, Cliftonville tomorrow (1 February) starting at 7.30pm- attendees requested to be seated by 7.15pm.

He will give a fully-illustrated talk on the European sketchbooks of his father Christopher Alexander ARE ARCA (1926 – 82), with a special focus on his wonderful sketches of Paris, Venice and Cyprus. The talk will also include an analysis of the way he used a wide range of different media to achieve the best effects.

The talk should be of interest to anyone who values figurative art and to those who have used, or who plan to use, sketchbooks.

Steve will be showing some examples of the techniques he learnt from his father and has regularly used during his travels in France, Italy, and (particularly) Spain.

During the evening there will be a fundraising raffle with tickets £1 per strip or 6 for £5, with all proceeds being donated to Parkinson’s UK.   Steve will be raffling his watercolour of Old Margate as a 1st prize and 2 sets of prints for 2nd and 3rd prizes.
