Botany Bay has scooped a place in a list of the UK’s top hidden beaches.
Time Out London has published its guide to “a day by the sea without the crowds and the tackiness.”
In its top 13 hidden beaches Time Out picks Botany Bay, saying: “Older visitors will be humming ‘There’ll be bluebirds over, the white cliffs of Dover’ as they take in the chalk cliffs backing this lovely bay, but younger ones will be goggling at (and probably trying to scale) the towering stacks that characterise Botany Bay, and hunting for fossils at low tide.”
“This is when the beach is at its best, revealing rock pools, an extensive chalk reef that’s deemed to be one of the best in Britain, and a hugely enjoyable shoreline walk to Broadstairs, an hour away. Stock up on sarnies and fizzy drinks from the friendly folk at the kiosk.”
The publication also highlights Minnis Bay, Joss Bay and Viking Bay as “nice neighbours.”
According to VisitThanet Botany Bay found its name when those found in possession of smuggled goods were deported to Botany Bay in Australia.
The Blue Flag beach has a dog ban in place from 1st May until 30th September, when dogs are not permitted between 10am to 6pm.
