Garlinge Primary School and Nursery School was transformed into a world of colour, creativity, and imagination during its annual Arts Week, held from 18th–22nd May and themed around “Superheroes.”
Throughout the week, pupils explored what it truly means to be a hero, looking beyond comic-book characters to recognise the everyday heroes who make a difference in our communities. Children reflected on the qualities that define heroism — including kindness, bravery, resilience, and helping others — drawing inspiration from people such as firefighters, nurses, family members and friends.
The theme sparked a huge range of creative activities across the school. Classrooms were filled with excitement as pupils produced vibrant artwork, imaginative crafts, poems, and stories inspired by superheroes and heroic acts. Dance and music also played an important role, with children choreographing energetic routines and performing songs linked to the theme.
Miss Jenkins, the school’s Art Leader, praised the enthusiasm and creativity shown by the pupils throughout the week.
She said: “It has been incredible to see how imaginative the children have been,” she said. “They have fully embraced the theme and shown a wonderful understanding that anyone can be a hero through their actions and the way they treat others.”
The week culminated in a spectacular superhero parade, where pupils proudly showcased their artwork and creative projects while dressed in colourful costumes. Families and staff celebrated the children’s achievements as the school came together for a joyful finale.
Head of School, Mr Cope, said: “Arts Week is always a very special part of our school year,” he said. “This year’s theme has encouraged the children to think positively about themselves and others, and it has been fantastic to see their confidence and creativity shine throughout the week.”
