A protest and counter-protest with opposing anti-immigration and anti-racism groups is set to take place in Margate next month.
Kent Anti-Racism Network is organising a counter protest in response to a rally by MissusKent – aka Jodie Scott – who gave a singing performance at a Tommy Robinson march in London in September.
The Whitstable resident has been prominent at a number of demonstrations in Kent and is now advertising a protest in Margate on December 22.
On her social media account she says the ‘patriots’ demo will meet at Dreamland at 4pm, march up past the police station, round to Trinity Square and then back past Dreamland to the train station.
However, she has now updated to say she won’t be present due to ‘food poisoning.’
Kent Anti-Racism Network is organising a counter protest. In a social media post the Network says: “MissUKKent plans to bring her tuneless band of ‘we’re not racists’ to Margate on 22nd December. Nothing says ‘I’m a Christian woman’ more than screeching race hatred during Christmas week does it?”
KARN invites people to meet at 3pm at the Marine Drive shelter.
The protests follow those in Margate in September when a small UKIP gathering was met by a large counter crowd on the seafront.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police is aware of a planned protest in Margate on Monday 22 December.
“The force is in contact with the organisers and will have sufficient resources in place to both facilitate peaceful protests and keep any disruption to the wider public to a minimum.”
