GADDS’ Ramsgate Brewery has acquired the freehold of the Montefiore Arms in Ramsgate, marking a new chapter in the story of pub.
“The Montefiore Arms has long been our favourite pub,” said Eddie Gadd, founder of GADDS’ Ramsgate Brewery and already landlord at the Monte. “When it went up for sale, we knew we had to step in and save it. It’s a special place, full of character and warmth.”
The brewery will celebrate the takeover at the Montefiore Arms on Friday 5th September, from 6pm, with a free welcome drink, nibbles, and entertainment throughout the evening.
The event will also formally reveal a new mural, commissioned from Ramsgate-based artist and pub regular Dani Flowerdew, which celebrates beer, community and the environment, whilst bringing colour and new life to the pub’s exterior.
Dani said: “When Eddie first asked me if I’d like to create a mural, I wasn’t sure about making any changes to the pub – it’s perfect as it is! But then he explained the idea was to bring colour and joy to the area, without fundamentally changing the ethos of the pub.
“Eddie was keen to have something abstract, but other than that the brief was very open.”
The final design incorporates the suggestion of landscape, sea and of course the ingredients for beer.
Dani said: “I worked as closely as possible with the brand colours for the beers, so the palette was based around the pump clip colours of all our favourite ales. The mural fulfils Eddie’s brief of brightening the street and reflects the values at the heart of The Monte: connection, community, and care for the world around us.”
A regular in the Good Pub Guide, The Montefiore Arms has long held a reputation for quality, simplicity, and character – it’s a place where community still means something. The pub has been recognised by CAMRA for serving some of the best beer in the country, including GADDS’ own award-winning brews.
Alongside plenty of real ale, the revised pub menu now has quality wines, Belgian beers and non-alcoholic options. Tapas Tuesdays, monthly book clubs and quizzes, and acoustic ukulele music from GADDZUKES each Wednesday, add to the quaint appeal of the venue.
Eddie said: “We’re losing too many community spaces these days, but the Monte continues to flourish, welcoming a crowd of regulars and new faces alike, and bringing old-fashioned pub ideals back to life.”
GADDS’ plan to keep everything people love about The Monte, while helping it thrive for years to come.

My initial experience was completely the opposite. As a visitor I was welcomed by the barman and the regulars.
Still the same today.
Love this pub , always have … I can say for certain that my family have been using the pub for 5 generations but it held a special place for my dad who in the 1950’s & early 60’s , lived in the street with his parents, 4 other siblings , a brother in law and an Alsatian!!!
