A 15-year-old girl from Margate has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault after an incident at the Londis shop in Broadstairs on Wednesday (August 20).
It’s reported the shop owner was punched in the face and his wife had hair pulled out as they tried to stop a girl from stealing alcohol from the High Street store. A third person was also reportedly assaulted during the struggle. The culprit then fled the shop.
The disturbance was caught on the shop’s CCTV.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called to a report that three people had been assaulted at a commercial premises in Broadstairs High Street at around 7.20pm on Wednesday 20 August. Staff had reportedly intervened following an attempted theft of alcohol.
“Officers attended the scene with paramedics and patrols were also continued in the town to ensure no further disturbances.
“Following enquiries into the incident, a 15 year old girl from Margate was subsequently arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault. She has been bailed with conditions to return to the police station at a later date, pending further enquiries.
“Dispersal orders which last 48 hours have been in operation this week, the most recent was introduced at midday on Thursday 21 August, ensuring officers have additional powers to move on anyone over the age of 10 seen to be causing antisocial behaviour. If the offenders return to the area during that time, they risk arrest.
“Additional patrols have remained in Broadstairs throughout the summer and policing resources are being used as necessary to ensure Thanet remains a safe place to live and visit.”
Bring back the stocks and methods of embarrassment of these sorts of offenders, yes they are young and prison isn’t appropriate, but they need to learn these sort of actions aren’t acceptable in any society.

Regretfully today 22/08/2025 I noted 3 officers interviewing a member of staff within a shop in Westgate~on~Sea and an officer interviewing a member of public outside. Four officers and 2 vehicles
Regretfully it is becoming more obvious that opportunity thieving is on the rise within all parts of Thanet.

Prison is to soft and doesnt work.6 months in a military bootcamp where she can cry with exhaustion,strict discipline and plenty of verbal abuse.She wont commit another crime after a stint there.

Plenty do and I’ve got some charged in the past and their promotions blocked as a result. Not a reason for them to be discharged, but to stop them getting too much u nfettered power.

I can see Phyllis Quot is on the side of the perpetrator.Your softly softly approach to these problems is failing and the exact reason 14 year olds and 15 year olds assault decent people.
A man was stabbed to death on holiday in Sheppey last month by two 15 year olds and a 14 year old. A 12 year old is also being interviewed. Why dont you run some sweets and comics over to them and make their custody easier.

These kids around here don’t know how good they have it! Never have children had an easier time than 2025. To be a teenager around here is so easy it makes me wanna puke to see them not doing more with themselves considering all the opportunities they have here in Thanet. You can do anything you set your mind to in a place like Margate or Ramsgate. These kids could even surf in pure Ocean water! Or get involved with all the fantastic business opportunities in the area. The Reform Party has a good idea about drafting these feral dogs into the military. Boot camp is where they will learn who is daddy! That’s right you brats. The drill Sargent is Papa now! When Nigel gets in finally we can send in the military to sort out the wild feral kids. Other than national service and wartime our military has predominantly been made up of volunteers. During peacetime nuts not a numbers game, it’s a quality of mind and skills game. Even with volunteers some don’t make it even in non specialists roles. There historically has been a difference between TA/Reserves/Militia and regular forces. Attitude and commitment was very different as was reason for being in the services until 1996 when Blair brought in new legislation which lost some who would volunteer for use in time of war against the U.K. and commonwealth, but not use for the will of politicians to project power abroad for global rather than national interests.
It’s a no from me for military national service. Yes have a national service, but like Germany used to have there needs to be other non combat national service which there includes fire service and even nursing homes.
