Traders in Margate’s lower High Street are stressing they are still open for business despite a road closure for gas works by SGN.
A length of the High Street has been shut off since April 22 with through traffic prohibited. It is understood works are complete but the road closure looks likely to stay in place until May 1.
One-way traffic is suspended between the junctions of Market Street and New Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative route for any through traffic is via Market Street, Lombard Street, Hawley Street and New Street. Pedestrian access is maintained.
SGN say: “The restrictions are required for the safety of the public and workforce while allowing gas works to be carried out.”
Bong Shop owner Thule Letts has slammed the decision to close off the road.
She said: “This is another blow to the lower High Street traders and there is complete disregard of businesses trying to trade .
“We are still open, please visit.”
