A Ramsgate mum of twins will walk 100km – approximately 62 miles- throughout May to raise funds for Charity Bliss which gives emotional and practical support to families of premature and sick babies.

Chardonnay Nicholson, 22, gave birth on May 4, 2023, 11 weeks early, to her babies Bella and Aaliyah at QEQM Hospital.

The twins, whose birth weights were 2lb 11oz and 3lb 7oz, were then moved to a special baby care unit at Ashford before eventually returning to Margate.

Chardonnay said: “I’m doing the run as my twins were born at 28 weeks critically ill . I wasn’t sure if they were going to survive or not.

“ I went 7 hours without any information before they got rushed to another hospital.

“They are soon to be two next month. If it wasn’t for the (hospital) team my girls wouldn’t be here now.

“Bliss is a charity close to my heart which raises money for sick/premature babies.”

Char will walk around five miles per day until she hits her target.

Bliss, founded in 1979,  is a UK-based charity for infants. It supports the families of babies in neonatal care and works with health professionals to provide training and improve care for babies.

It campaigns for improved hospital resources and is actively involved in neonatal research.
