Get to grips with large format photography with documentary photographer Edward Thompson at Turner Contemporary
Do you want an original one-off portrait shot of yourself, family or friends?
Step back in time and join us for this unique workshop with documentary photographer Edward Thompson this Easter holiday.
What to expect: Each ticket gives you a 15-minute session. You’ll get to make 2 black and white portraits on large format positive photographic paper using a snazzy large format camera. If you want to get more involved, there’ll also be the chance for you to become the photographer of your group, with assistance from Edward.
The photographic paper will be whisked away and taken to be developed at The Margate School. We’ll send your images directly to your home. Development of pictures and post is included in the ticket price.
This is an analogue process, results may vary, and that’s why it’s great!

Throughout the Bank Holiday weekend, Westwood Cross will come alive with the sound of live music as local buskers perform at the centre’s dedicated Busk Stop, located outside the Community Hub.

The Easter Bunny will be ready to meet you, snap selfies, and spread some springtime cheer! You’ll find him at the Community Hub by Next, handing out mini Easter eggs and collecting feedback through Share Your Thoughts.
The Westwood Cross dinosaur trail is soon set to make a stomping return, bringing its popular prehistoric friends back to the shopping centre.
Guests are invited to embark on a Jurassic journey to track down all the life-sized dinosaurs, including Bernard the Parasaurolophus, Camilla the Stegosaurus, Charles the Dilophosaurus, and Boris, the fearsome T-Rex.
Families can snap selfies along the way and uncover fun facts about each dino. With plenty of roar-some surprises in store, it’s the perfect free activity to entertain little explorers throughout the spring and summer.
Local talent looking to apply for a busking slot at Westwood Cross, may express their interest by emailing [email protected], giving their name, information about their act, any links to performances and a telephone number.
Broadstairs Easter Food Festival
18th April – 20th April
80+ stalls of produce and hot food at Victoria Gardens over the Easter weekend, with independent producers offering everything from preserves and pickles, bread and bakery, wines and spirits.
There will be eclectic mix of live music on the bandstand, and visitors can sample the produce and chat to the food producers.
There will be plenty of hot food to feast on, including meat free and dairy free food.
Dog policy: Guide, assistance and hearing dogs are welcome on site. Access is limited to these registered animals only

Easter Bonnet Parade

Follow The Swirl alongside their King Street neighbours Hiro + Wolfe are marking the start of the season with an Easter Bonnet Parade for families and their furry friends.
Charlotte Kimber, co-founder of Follow The Swirl, said: “As a business who celebrates seasonality through our changing fruit flavoured ice cream we wanted to mark the start of our Spring season, and what better way than with an Easter Bonnet Parade bringing people outside together and working with our neighbours the fantastic Hiro + Wolfe.”
‘Follow the Swirl’ at 12a King Street in Margate’s old town, is the brainchild of Charlotte Kimber and Steve Taylor – founders of the popular Little Swift bar and shop on Margate’s seafront – and New Zealander Nicole Ferris.
Hiro + Wolf ” sells accessories for cats, dogs (and their humans!).
Both Follow The Swirl and Hiro & Wolf are hoping to build their Easter Bonnet Parade into an annual event so as to continue to raise vital funds for Margate RNLI.
Hiro + Wolf and their sister brand AARVEN have currently raised some £2,000 for charity since 2022.

Crampton Tower Broadstairs
Crampton Tower reopens to visitors on Good Friday 18th April
The Crampton Tower Museum is a fascinating small museum partly housed in a flint tower adjacent to the Broadstairs Railway Station. The tower formed part of the first Broadstairs public water supply and was put in repair by Thanet District Council.
Thomas Russell Crampton is perhaps chiefly remembered as a designer of locomotives and of railways, but he was also concerned with gas, water works and the submarine telegraph cable. He was the first to succeed in laying an effective telegraph cable under the English Channel.
Open Friday, Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays from 2pm until 4.30pm, last admission 4pm.
Admission costs are: £5.00 – Adults, £3.00 – Child, aged 4-16 years, £13.00 – Family, 2 adults & 2 children.

Foraging Adventure

Come for a foraging adventure comprised of a 2 – 2.5 hour coastal walk, learning about edible seaweeds and coastal plants, followed by a foraged plant preparation workshop and lunch.
