Jo Mapp exhibition

Jo is a visual artist who drew inspiration for her second solo exhibition from the vibrant late 80s and early 90s rave culture. Her multi-layered, expressive portraits capture the intensity and energy of that hedonistic era, until she had to give way to the responsibilities of motherhood.

As her children grew, Jo realized that her experiences from those years shaped her parenting, making it easier to have honest conversations with them about life choices. After losing a close DJ friend who was an integral part of her rave days, Jo’s memories were triggered whilst listening to an old set of his on Centreforce radio. Painting to house music, she channelled memories that had long been buried, transforming them into images of twisted faces and vivid colors. Her exhibition is a homage to the freedom and intensity of those years and the celebration of an unbreakable friendship.
