The owners of the Boulevard Kiosk on Ramsgate seafront are planning to kick off the school Summer holidays by offering punters a 99 ice cream for 99p.

The kiosk has been in the family for more than 20 years. Andy Wright, who ran the bar on the beach and kiddies corner previously, took over for his mum around five years ago. He is now helped by son Liam, 24, when he is home from London, daughter Emily, 14, at the weekends, manager Laura Winkworth plus a helping hand from her partner.

Andy, whose family used to run ice creams, catering, carting and games at Bem Boms (Dreamland) during the 80s, already runs competitions and giveaways but wanted families, especially those with a number of children, to be able to grab a treat that doesn’t break the bank.

The dad-of-three said: “People come out to enjoy things but lots are a bit short of cash at the moment. We thought we’d kick off the summer holidays and the carnival weekend with the 99 for 99 so even a family of five can enjoy ice creams for a fiver.”

Laura, who joined the kiosk while at  university and remains on the crew six years later, Andy and the rest of the team will man the kiosk from 9am to 6pm throughout the holidays with the 99 for 99 offer on July 27th.

Ramsgate carnival weekend runs on July 27-28 with a fair, giants and hooden horses at Government Acre  and the parade taking place on July 28 from 4pm.
