Signs advising against bathing have been removed this morning (Friday 28 August) at beaches in Broadstairs, from Kingsgate to Dumpton Gap (incl Joss, Stone, Viking and Louisa bays) and at West Bay, Westgate-on-Sea and Fulsam Rock, Margate.
Signs were put up yesterday (August 27) in Broadstairs due to sewerage outfalls, and in West Bay and Fulsam Rock due to a pollution risk.
Thanet council says: “This was a precautionary measure following confirmation from Southern Water on Thursday 27 August that there had been an outfall release within the last 24 hours that may have affected water quality.
“Additionally, signs advising against bathing at West Bay, Westgate-on-Sea and Fulsam Rock, Margate have also been removed. This follows advice from the Environment Agency that the Pollution Risk Forecast Warning issued yesterday has now been lifted.
“The signs were put out as a precautionary measure, following a warning from the Environment Agency, after heavy rain.”

Simple solution – fine the water company1% of their shares each time they dump sewage in our seas or on our beaches! Fifty offences and they have !most control of their cash cow!
Good news for weekend bank holidaymakers and bathers from far and wide. Maybe the past directive considering not bathing in these affected bays during the wishy-washy outfall was not heard by many. At least there is a quality urgent-care walk-in hospital nearby~
Seen in London to prevent the majority of sewage outfalls from entering the River Thames. TWA (not an airline) made a substantial tunneled system to store and pump out sewage later; Their customers have to pay an additional £13+ on their bills per annum forever. <Citation always welcome.
Thanet coastal areas have for a long time released wishy-washy stuff, sea-bound during heavy rain. Recently Thanet sewers have been improved allowing more capacity, quicker flow with less leaks so all good. Southern Water sea releases the washy stuff so it doesn't overcome their pump premises, and local coastal TDC residents properties who won't be happy with washy smelly stuff in their properties
