A vigil will be held in Ramsgate town centre following the death of Ramsgate dad Ashley Jones.
Cllr Raushan Ara has organised the event, saying she had known Ashley for several years and describing him as ‘kind, polite and friendly.’
Ashley’s life was taken in the early hours of Sunday (August 23) after he was stabbed in an attack in Harbour Street.
The 52-year-old was taken to hospital but sadly pronounced dead.
A second man, aged 48, was also stabbed in Harbour Parade. He has since been released from hospital.
As part of the police investigation, a 45 year old man was identified as a third victim, although he did not sustain any injuries.
Cllr Ara said: “On behalf of our community, we send our sincere condolences to Ashley’s family and friends.
“We are holding a vigil on Friday 4th September at 12pm in Ramsgate Town Centre to remember him.
“I’ve known Ashley for several years. He was always kind, polite and friendly. I never saw him behave badly, but I did see him care for others. If he hadn’t seen someone in a while, he would always ask if I’d seen them.
“The last time I spoke to him was Friday 18th August in the market — we talked for about half an hour. On Saturday 19th August around 9:30pm, he waved to me through the restaurant window. If only I’d known that would be his last goodbye.
“As far as I know, Ashley put himself in danger while protecting others, as he always did. Rest in peace, Ashley.”
Remanded
Kieran O’Rourke, aged 21, of Seafield Mews, Ramsgate has been charged with murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, attempted murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
He appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court yesterday (August 26) and was remanded in custody to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on a date to be confirmed.
Given the victims previous offence and there’s no official account of what happened last week, is it not a little much to comment on behalf of the community?
Why are you being judgemental? Your bringing up the victims previous why? The police are not going to release any details on a ongoing investigation especially when it could damage their own case especially not to satisfy your judgemental attitude.
Balancing the statements from the mayor who paints a picture very different from others who’ve dealt with him. People can do a search and find the previous offence.
Ramsgate has turned into a fetid cesspit. I was burgled twice by junkies when i lived up by the park. As a result i’ve no time for anyone that is or has been involved in the drugs trade. Nor do i believe they change their spots.
Are you saying the victim was pure and honest man ? Lets wait and see what the outcome of the investigation is and take it from there.
If the mayor feels she can speak for the community and ignore the bad bits, the community is quite entitled to balance that a bit.

But according to crimerate.co.uk rmsgate has about 50% more crime than the national average.
From same site ramsgate has 108 crimes per 1000 people and Camden 98 per 1000 ( and it’s in top 5 most dangerous boroughs in london)
So ramsgate is’nt doing too well on the crime front ( well according to that site)
For comparison margte comes in at 95 crimes per 1000.
