EKC’s Margate Digital Campus is issuing a call out to isle graffiti or mural artists to take part in a creative project at the High Street site.
The college group is running a competition for Thanet artists to give them a chance to play a key role in the final artistic look and feel of the new campus.
Artists are asked to submit their proposal for a graffiti or mural installation to be located in the central space within the building.
A maximum budget of £15,000 is available for labour, equipment and materials, and they’ll be responsible for delivering the whole project from idea to completion.
The installation should reflect the context and heritage of Margate, as well as the creative arts education taking place at the Margate Digital Campus.
The deadline for all submissions is 11.59pm on Sunday 2 August.

The EKC Broadstairs College Margate Digital Campus is a state-of-the-art creative hub in Margate High Street. It has been open since January and currently has 92 students in its 16-19 provision, with plans to grow to around 200 by its third year.
It’s one strand of East Kent Colleges Group (EKC Group), which has six further education colleges in Ashford, Broadstairs, Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone and Sheppey, and nine adult training centres across East Kent.
The creation of the new space forms part of Thanet council’s Regeneration Programme, which has been funded by the UK Government. The £6.3m Levelling Up funding was granted to create a digital and education campus with studios, gallery, café and workshops at the former M&S building.
Work started on the campus in 2025. The project includes 2,000 square metres of industry-relevant training space which aims to help future generations gain qualifications and step confidently into the creative industry as they kick start their careers.
Thanet’s A+C animation studio has teamed up with East Kent Colleges Group (EKC Group) to co-create a new course that will run at the campus.
well there is certainly no shortage of these idiots in thanet , the place is covered in this vandalism , everywhere you look now someone has squirted spray paint , art or not – its a mess and its permanent ,and no one is ever caught doing it ? . i would be interested to know where they purchase all of this paint from – thats if they do pay for it ?
And £15,000 of funding is available.
Where did that money come from ?
I am sure a professional painter and decorator would be glad of the work . . .

Honestly I despair.
Its not graffiti it’s a mural, did you pay any interest to the passage of time? Society encourages healthy expression, human beings are creative and progressing creatively as time moves forward, walls are valuable space to encourage and stimulate the imagination, young people are happier when the environment stimulates their learning. We don’t live in a tyrannical kingdom anymore. Stop being redundant and get with the times. Majority of young people know the difference between vandalism and art. Just not you.

In Germany its called Vandalismus, and carry’s a large fine! Thats what graffitie is vandalism, especially if its sprayed on your garden wall! Time the paint tins were banned, who else need them?

I saw this story and knew that there would be the obligatory comments. I get it but they are looking at someone to paint a mural in the building, not on your fence.
It’s to paint a mural on an internal wall of the building, looking to embrace the talents of local artists, much like all the artwork across the island painted on the sides of entire buildings.
Lots of negative comments from the usual NIMBY battalion.
