There was plenty of excitement on the pitch as St Laurence Junior Academy Year 6 took on the staff in the much-anticipated end of year match.
This year’s fixture was football, with four teams of Year 6 pupils taking on the adults in a fast-paced and closely fought contest. The staff got off to a strong start, taking the lead in the first and second games. However, when the third Year 6 team came on, they turned the match around and brought the score level at 6–6.
With everything still to play for, the final moments were tense, but the staff just managed to pip Year 6 to the post, securing an 8–6 win.
Year 6 captain Eloise led her teams brilliantly, encouraging her teammates and keeping spirits high. Julian impressed in goal with some excellent saves, while Charlie showed great stamina by playing more than one game. Ryan also stood out with his impressive speed, causing plenty of problems for the staff defence!
A school spokesperson said: “A special mention must go to Mr Bottle, who somehow managed to play every game and referee at the same time. Thank you also to all the staff who took part, including Mr Gregory, our Chair of Governors.
“Well done to Year 6 for their brilliant teamwork, determination and sportsmanship. It was a fantastic way to celebrate the end of the year.”
