Around 200 runners from the Thanet community, clubs and Parkruns came together yesterday (3 June) at Ramsgate’s Boating Pool to mark Global Running Day with a spirited 5K run along the coast.
The annual celebration, now in its fourth year locally, saw participants of all ages and abilities take part in a two-lap course, united by a shared passion for running and the benefits it brings.
The occasion reflects the wider global movement of Global Running Day, which encourages people everywhere to get active, regardless of experience or fitness level.
Runners representing a variety of local groups, including established running clubs, turned out in force, creating a lively and supportive atmosphere. The scenic setting of the coastline provided a fitting backdrop, highlighting both the physical and social appeal of running in the area.
Darren Sayer, from Coastal Striders, said: “Getting out for a run can make a huge difference to both body and mind. It’s brilliant to see so many more people getting active and making the most of our stunning coastline.
“There’s something special about running as part of a group too — it brings a sense of community and motivation that’s hard to beat. It’s an easy way to get started with exercise and the Thanet running groups are known for being friendly, inclusive, and full of encouragement.”
With growing participation year on year, the gathering continues to highlight the strength of the local running community — and shows no signs of slowing down.
