An impressive performance at the Thanet Juniors Schools Netball Tournament by the St Nicholas at Wade CE Primary team is inspiring pupils to take up the sport.
The team enjoyed a sparkling run in the first-round matches of the annual competition that was held on the courts at Chatham and Clarendon Grammar, Ramsgate.
The youngsters won six from seven games including a 9-0 victory that took them into the winners’ group against the more established players.
The St Nicholas side also won a goal shooting competition with players Rowan and Amelia hitting 20 baskets in their allotted time, netting a new netball for their school as a prize.
The school was also third highest scorers out of a field of 13 other teams, while player Austin was named star player by the umpires.
Head Teacher Taralee Kennedy said: “This was a tough challenge for our team and every one of our players performed to the best of their ability.
“There were some very strong, established sides taking part and St Nicholas can feel exceptionally proud that its team performed so well.
“The success at the tournament is a testament to the group’s dedication, enthusiasm and a never-say-die spirit. The way they represented the school and their fellow pupils was impeccable.
“They have inspired pupils to find out more about taking up the sport. It is a great way to improve fitness and enjoy the comradeship of being in a team.”
