A Ramsgate man who has denied murdering a 13-week-old baby will next be in court on July 29 for a pre-trial review.
Tyla Wharmby, of Prestedge Avenue, is charged with murder and grievous bodily harm with intent over the death of baby Hunter Hodges in 2022.
On 15 July 2022, emergency services were called to the injured baby boy at an address in Queen Street. Hunter was taken to QEQM Hospital and then on to a London hospital but sadly died later the same day.
Mr Wharmby was arrested and subsequently bailed while enquiries were completed into the circumstances of the incident.
On Monday 23 February, he was charged.
Mr Wharmby, 24, appeared before Canterbury Crown Court on Tuesday (May 19) where he denied the charges.
He has been remanded in custody.
A woman arrested at the time of the baby boy’s death was released without charge.
An inquest opened in August 2022 into baby Hunter’s death but was then suspended while the police investigation into the circumstances took place.
Cause of death was listed as head injury with the inquest told Hunter suffered a hypoxic ischemic brain injury.
Hypoxic ischemic brain injury can be caused by factors including cardiac arrest, stroke or head injury.
Mr Wharmby’s pre-trial review on July 29 at Canterbury Crown Court is expected to be followed by trial in October.
