Eco Committee pupils at Callis Grange Nursery and Infant School in Broadstairs have been busy building strong community connections while continuing their commitment to protecting and caring for the environment as a Green Flag award School.
Over recent months, the school has been working closely with the Broadstairs Town Team to build links and to encourage children to take an active role in their community.
As part of the school’s ongoing environmental work, Reception pupils celebrated Hedgehog Day with a very special visit from Dottie’s Little Hog Hospital, which is a Hedgehog rescue and charity.
Children enjoyed learning all about hedgehogs, the dangers these much-loved animals face, and how everyone can help protect local wildlife and their habitats. Families of the children in Reception kindly donated food and essentials to the charity.
The celebration was made even more special thanks to the generosity of Broadstairs Town Shed, which kindly donated a beautifully made hedgehog house to the school. The new hedgehog home will provide a safe shelter for wildlife within the school grounds and support the school’s efforts to create a more nature-friendly environment.
The school’s Eco Team continues to lead initiatives focused on sustainability, conservation, and community involvement, inspiring pupils to become environmentally aware and to care about the world around them.
Mrs MacFarlan, the Eco Lead, and Headteacher Mrs Palmer-Simpson thank both Dottie’s Little Hog Hospital and the Broadstairs Town Shed for their support and for helping pupils learn valuable lessons about wildlife conservation and community spirit.
