The new Green county councillor for Cliftonville division says he has had confirmation from senior officers that they are in the process of deciding which bus service enhancements should be introduced via subsidy in Thanet.
The six options that KCC officers are considering are:
Feedback is being sought by officers, so Cllr Yates has created a feedback form for residents to respond with their views. He says the process to sift and prioritise is being done “sooner, rather than later.”
Cllr Yates said: “I am excited that KCC is taking bus service improvements in Thanet seriously. We have seen numerous cuts in services over the last few years, from a reduction in frequency of the Loop, to the removal of the Ramsgate to Canterbury service, and the end of the 33. I am glad that the public sector is stepping in, where the private sector is failing.
“If you can please complete the webform, your feedback on what services you want will be fed back to KCC officers, so that you can have your voice heard in Maidstone.”
On the feedback form Cllr Yates particulary highlights bus service changes of the removal of the 33 service, the number 9 from Ramsgate no longer going to Canterbury, the Open-top bus introduced for summer months (£8 for a single, no concessions or normal DayRiders can be used) and the Loop service reduction from every eight minutes to every 10 minutes since February this year.

Routes currently subsidised in Thanet are the 35/37 Westgate to Margate bus from Regent and Stagecoach’s 11 route from Canterbury to Westwood Cross; 36 Jerne Bay to Margate and 48/48A Ramsgate to Birchington.
The Labour government has awarded Kent more than £70 million, made up of £42m to improve bus services with the rest in capital funding for infrastructure, to cover 2026-2029.
Which “9” option will go via Minster and Monkton?
I would imagine either option but you have the 11 so would the 9 need to go from Westwood.
Again they forget about the Newington estate, the 34 is every hour and hour each way and if it gets delayed ie Grange Rd being shut. People that rely on the bus to get to work, school and medical appointments are let down because the route was scaled back time and time again.
That’s not ideal, but it’s better than some areas in East Kent, that now have a bus service once a day (St. Nicholas village centre, Reculver, Nonnington). Even Minnis Bay, since the changes to the 34 route is poorly served, with those needing to go to QEQM requiring two buses in each direction, and no service on Sundays.

What a rambling mess of a story, I assume to try and pour shame on Cllr Yates, but unfortunately you’ve just made yourself look foolish, the bus story and improving the service is clearly not a conflict of interest with you being a racist or not….. not even remotely.

When Grange Road Ramsgate is closed I am house bound, can’t really afford taxis. Not the bus company’s fault, but KCC please sort of this road once and for all.
Only allowing well behaved people to board the buses would be an improvement!
That would stop some drivers from getting on!
If busses don’t pass through the shop in Northdown Road then they’re all racist. Especially The Loop.
Does Manston BP really need a bus service? Just improve the 48 by having a frequent service. Bring the 32 back to every 20 minutes instead of every hour to Minnis Bay this would replace the half hour service to Minnis Bay, have a 32 at 7:15pm this would serve Garlinge and Minnis Bay as i think the 2 hour gap is stupid. Replace the Sunday 8x with the 8a serving Northdown Park as the current 8x on Sundays doesn’t serve Northdown Park this 8a could also serve Birchington Station. Have a service serve Eastern Esplanade like the 33 used to. Have a night Loop on Friday, Saturdays Evenings, not sure if that would work but a trial could be run, this would make use of the evening rider which experirs at 4:59am.

No they won’t. If you read the article, some services are subsidised.
