Minster FC Women have taken the Kent Divisional Trophy after a brilliant 2-0 victory over Tonbridge Juniors Football Club.
The team was only formed last summer, making the cup the first title they have clinched and putting them on track to win the South East Counties Women’s Football League (SECWFL) Kent Division 3 East.
Sponsored by Minster Meze and Probe security, the ladies have won every game played so far bar one that was called off and another to a team in the league above them.
Under the guidance of manager Steph Meek, head coach Paige Godden and coach Andy Long, the team – known as The Hinds- have already scored nearly 100 goals.
A team spokesperson said: “ Minster FC Women came together last summer after speaking with Colin Holden about introducing a women’s side at the club.
“The team played one match before the season started and it was clear that they were special – the score was 15-0.
“They’ve worked hard and won every league game they’ve played this season. We had one where we couldn’t get a team together so it’s gone down as a loss but it simply wasn’t played. In the cups we have again lost to one game to a team from the league above. Collectively we’ve scored almost 100 goals.
“On Sunday we faced Tonbridge Jnr Knights at the Gallagher in the final of Kent Divisional Trophy. They play division 3 west.
“It was 0-0 at half time and 2-0 to us at full time. We conceded a penalty in the first half which they missed. We dominated the second half with two goals from Paige Godden.
“There was a really good turnout of supporters and the trophy is the first piece of silverware for the team.
“We are now on track to win the league with six points needed from 12 to guarantee the title. Depending on other team results we could win it this weekend.”
