Two fire crews attended a fire at a house in Ramsgate today (April 22) started by a lithium-ion battery.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Margate Road at 2.10pm.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire and one person was passed into the care of paramedics for precautionary checks.
It’s believed the fire started accidentally when the battery caught alight while on charge.
Following the incident, crews are reminding people to charge, store, and use batteries and battery-powered items safely and to follow manufacturers’ guidance as well as buying electrical goods from reputable suppliers.
Crews finished at the scene at 2.41pm.
Be helpful if they said what charger type, phone, scooter, ebike? And what make. Was it the correct charger?
Probably not saying as it was an illegal scooter, used illegally on the road and not bought from a repeatable supplier either. If that’s the case, even if the insurer pays out, a payout could be reduced due to contributory negligence.

Mobility scooters are lipo, not lion for the most part. Lipo are even more dangerous, but if the right charger is used with the right cut off tech/thermal shut off, then you should be fine.
To Wildcat: you would need a very long cable.
This is a problem with mobility scooters, I can remove the battery for re-charging, but never leave it on overnight. I also stand it in a Pyrex bowl lid, and move it away from any possible inflammable material, but I still check it! It normally takes about 4 hours to charge, I have nowhere to leave it on charge uising an electric extension cable! Just one more problem with lithium ion batteries I suppose! PS. the charger gets very hot too!

There should a law preventing insurance payouts if the client cites Amazon as the source of their purchase.
Why should other clients have to accept higher premiums just because of a whimsical buying decision?
Where does it say it was an Amazon product? And although I avoid Amazon like the plague, they sell quality stuff too.
