An event celebrating Klezmer music and Yiddish dance comes to Cliftonville next week.
KlezMargate at ARK Cliftonville in Albion Road features artists including Grammy-winning trumpeter Frank London (NYC – Klezmatics), Yiddish dance leader Avia Moore (CA), and musicians Daniel Gouly (clarinet), Anna Lowenstein (fiddle), Josh Middleton (accordion), Simon Roth (drums) and Francesca Ter-Berg (cello).
The evening starts at 6.30pm with a special Klezmer Keilidh led by Avia Moore. No experience is needed for this participatory Keilidh, so join in or simply enjoy the music.
A seated concert follows at 8.15pm, led by Frank, co-founder of Klezmatics, a group formed in New York City’s East Village in 1986.
Now in their 40th year, the Klezmatics blend Yiddish soul with punk, gospel, jazz and folk. They are the only klezmer band ever to win a Grammy.
Francesca Ter-Berg is the festival’s artistic director and co-founder of ARK Cliftonville. An internationally recognised folk, experimental and sound artist, she is also a Cliftonville resident.
