Margate RNLI’s D class inshore lifeboat was tasked around 9.30am today (Thursday 16 April) following reports of a fox in the sea off Westbrook Bay.
Fortunately, the fox decided it was more at home on dry land and made its way ashore before the lifeboat launched.
Around midday the B class lifeboat was tasked to assist a 10m long yacht with two people on board. The vessel had experienced engine and sail failure around two miles northeast of North Foreland.
With the lifeboat’s arrival it was assessed that the best way to assist was to tow the vessel to Ramsgate harbour, the occupants were unharmed after their experience.
During its return passage to station, the lifeboat was diverted after HM Coastguard received a report from a family member ashore of two kayakers unable to make it back to shore around a mile off Palm Bay.
The casualties were quickly located and safely returned to shore unharmed and the lifeboat returned to station.
Great job done by Rnli , hopefully all rescued will donate towards the service given!

My son was one of the lads rescued. We have contributed a great deal to raising money through the RNLI competitions every year for several years. We are lucky to still have the RNLI, and we will continue to contribute because, thankfully for us, they were there when we needed them.
Was it offshore winds stopping them from getting back? (I’m assuming your son was in one of the kayaks).
Yes,it was. Coupled with the fact they hit a strong tidal current. They said the water was calm in one area, and then they hit high waves in another area that became too tiring to paddle through. One of them managed to get through it, the other decided it best to call for help. Luckily, the lifeboat was already out on another call. He only had to wait 2 mins.
